Hi masters,
I have doubts related to protocol configuration options, see this IE is included in ESM message. For the purpose of accessing the external networks. Here i am questions that means external networks in sense, gprs technology or common to other technologies. One more question, when we will activate PDP context ? either after attached with gprs technology or getting IP address from external networks..
The important things is Access point Name for getting IP addresses for different gprs services. it's? how.
I'm working this task, i have lot of doubts related to this, plz send reponse as soon as possible , then only i i w'll move to another processes.
Thanks
prem
Hello Prem,
I will do my best at trying to answer your question. The purpose of the Protocol Configuration Options (PCO) is to provide additional optional information about the destination network that the UE is connecting to. For example, when a UE connects to the Internet it will be given an IP address and it will be given a PCO that includes the default gateway IP address, the DNS server address, etc. All of these additional pieces of information are given in the PCO. We don't use the term PDP Context in LTE, but we use the term EPS Bearer. They are basically the same thing, but the EPS Bearer has been improved to support QoS better. There is a Default EPS Bearer that is established during the attach procedure. Additional Default bearers and Dedicated bearers could be established at later times.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions.

Hi chris Recce,
First fall i say thanks to you for kind replied. Your answers are very useful for me, but i need more clear pictures, that means destination network in the sense of either our LTE netwrok or other networks. If UE shall provide PCO in any message, which include default gateway IP address and DNS server address(important question : how UE can know these address). In PCO two list is there, one is for configuration option list and another is for additional parameter list. The configuration option list is having protocol ID(like CHAP, PAP, IPCP and LCP), how we can mention this protocol to access the destination network. Can you explain these things for my further works.
well dear only PAP/CHAP are supported in EPS ; see 24.008 3gpp specifications latest ones
